In an effort to formally RECOGNIZE, THANK and HONOR Oregon’s first responder and military members for their service to our community, state and country, the Oregon Trail Chapter of the American Red Cross is partnering with several other non-profits to host a 1,000+ person dinner event.
The 9/11 Dinner will be held on Saturday, September 10 at the Oregon Convention Center, and marks the 10th anniversary of the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. As the towers collapsed and the Pentagon burned, thousands of police officers, paramedics, firefighters, and military personnel flocked to the crash sites. Many who answered the call were off duty that day. Some were retired. A great number went into the burning and collapsing towers in search of survivors. Hundreds of first responders lost their lives trying to save others.
“Almost immediately after the first plane struck the World Trade Center, Red Cross volunteers and personnel were on the scene ready to aid in the response, providing support to individuals, families and rescue workers impacted by the devastating attacks,” said Oregon Trail Chapter CEO Maree Wacker. “Today, the Red Cross is proud to once again offer support, honoring those who serve our community each and every day with this very special event.”
At the 9/11 Dinner, first responder and military guests will be treated to an evening of tribute and special programming due to the generous support of the community. Every day across the country, thousands of brave men and women serve our nation and communities, putting their lives on the line and sacrificing daily to ensure our safety. First responders – firefighters, police officers, military personnel, emergency dispatchers and paramedics – encounter physical risks of the job, and stresses to their mental health, marriages and families. They serve with very little recognition or thanks. We are able to rest easy due to First Responders at the ready.
The 9/11 Dinner is held in partnership with Responder Life, Citizens Crime Commission, Public Safety Chaplaincy, and the Historical Outreach Foundation in support of the Oregon Military Museum telling the story of the Oregon National Guard.
