6/27/2011 - Oregon Red Cross Deploys Workers To Flood Relief Efforts
The Oregon Trail Chapter of the American Red Cross is assisting with relief efforts by deploying Chief Operating Officer (COO) Eric Corliss to help the local Red Cross CEO in Minot, ND with day-to-day business operations. "Local Red Cross employees are personally affected by this disaster," said Corliss. "Large-scale disasters also have a significant professional impact; it's my role to support the local CEO however I can." The Oregon Trail Chapter is also deploying Tyler Grant (Vancouver) to Bozeman to help with shelter operations for flood relief efforts in Montana.

6/23/2011 - Red Cross Offers Monthly Preparedness Classes
On the fourth Tuesday of every month, the Oregon Trail Chapter of the American Red Cross will host a free preparedness class, followed by a $10 hands-only "Citizen CPR" class. Classes will take place at the Oregon Trail Chapter, 3131 N. Vancouver Ave. (Portland) .

In collaboration with junior and senior art students from Lake Oswego High School, the Oregon Trail Chapter of the American Red Cross has assembled "The Art of Disaster: Views on the Japanese Earthquakes," an exhibit of 27 mixed media pieces that depict a variety of perspectives on the March 2011 Japan earthquake.

Six Oregon elementary school students and their teachers were recognized today for their winning entries in the first annual, "Don't be a Square, Draw and Prepare," Earthquake Preparedness Poster Contest, sponsored by the Oregon Red Cross and Oregon Health Authority -- Public Health Emergency Preparedness. The contest was scheduled to coincide with National Earthquake Preparedness Month and Oregon Public Health Week.

The Red Cross shelter located at Congregation Shaarie Torah, 920 NW 25th Avee, will re-open today at 5 p.m. to accommodate residents of the Francisco Apartments who are not yet permitted to return home. Dinner will be served at the shelter at 6 p.m.

2/14/2011 - Red Cross Opens Client Service Center in NW Portland

A client service center will operate from noon to 5 p.m. today at Pizzicato, 505 NW 23rd Ave., for residents affected by the the fire at the Francisco Apartments, 2346 NW Glisan. At the site, Red Cross volunteers will work with residents on a case-by-case basis to meet their immediate disaster-caused needs, including food and clothing.

2/2/2011 - Red Cross Responses Increase in Northeastern Oregon
These fires add to the steadily growing number of Red Cross responses in the area – in just the past three months, 55 people were helped after 12 fires the Northeastern Oregon District, which covers Morrow, Umatilla, Wallowa, Union and Baker counties. The Red Cross is now responding to an average of 4 fires per month vs. 3 per month in the year prior.
