A client service center will operate from noon to 5 p.m. today at Pizzicato, 505 NW 23rd Ave., for residents affected by the the fire at the Francisco Apartments, 2346 NW Glisan. At the site, Red Cross volunteers will work with residents on a case-by-case basis to meet their immediate disaster-caused needs, including food and clothing.

Last night, one guest stayed at the Red Cross shelter located at Congregation Shaarie Torah. The shelter is on standby for tonight, but is unlikely to be needed, as most residents have been able to find lodging with friends and family.

In Oregon, the American Red Cross shelters, feeds and provides emotional support to victims of disaster every 20 hours; supplies more than 90 percent of Oregon's blood; teaches thousands of Oregonians lifesaving skills; provides international humanitarian aid; and supports military members and their families. The Red Cross is a charitable organization – not a government agency – and depends on volunteers and the generosity of the American public to perform its mission.
