Going beyond the call of duty is pretty typical for volunteers from the Oregon Trail Chapter of the American Red Cross. So when a resident of the apartment complex to which the Red Cross was responding complained of chest pains, volunteers quickly called an ambulance to get them the help they needed.
Red Cross volunteers helped in other ways at this morning's two-alarm fire at an apartment complex in the 5100 block of N.E. Killingsworth St. They arranged temporary housing at a local hotel for three adults and one child, and provided meals, clothing and other immediate necessities
.
One adult was transported by AMR ambulance to Legacy Emanuel Hospital with a non-life threatening condition related to smoke inhalation. At the apartment complex, one unit was totally destroyed and another was severely damaged.
All Red Cross disaster assistance is free, made possible by voluntary donations of time and money from Oregonians. Call 503-284-1234 or visit www.redcross-pdx.org to help provide shelter, food, clothing, counseling and other immediate assistance to those in need.
