After a fire this evening, one northeast Portland family of eight has more to worry about than simply tomorrow's start of a new school year.
A father, mother and six children ages 5 to 16 were the victims of a single family fire that completely destroyed their home, located at NE 14th and Alberta. Though the owner of the home has insurance, the family has no renters' insurance and lost everything...right down to first day of school clothing for the kids.
The American Red Cross Oregon Trail Chapter was able to step in and help, providing clothes for school and work as well as groceries. Nearby neighbors assisted as well, providing school supplies for the children. Tonight, the family will stay down the street with a relative.
