Red Cross Volunteer Dennis Kelly received the annual Good Neighbor Award from Portland Metropolitan Association of Realtors on May 24, 2007. As a managing principal broker of the Hasson Company Realtors, Dennis Kelly earned the award for his efforts and contributions to the community through dedicated volunteer work. Dennis generously donated the $1000 award money to the Red Cross Oregon Trail Chapter: “This was an instantaneous decision (a no-brainer if you will) on where the money would be donated,” said Dennis. The money will be used to improve the equipment in the Public Affairs Department of the Chapter. A camera and other communications equipment will be purchased.
Dennis has served as a Red Cross Oregon Trail Chapter Volunteer for over 19 years.
Thanks to his creativity, Dennis Kelly came up with several exciting programs to help the community prevent, prepare and cope with disasters they may encounter. Dennis successfully gave disaster and preparedness presentations to schools and other agencies, while maintaining a personable and effective manner. As a disaster instructor, he taught new volunteers valuable lessons they would need when assisting disaster victims at the scene of an emergency. Dennis also produced an earthquake preparedness video that was used as an important resource in explaining how to prepare for an earthquake.
Dennis has been a ‘front-line” responder to local disasters and providing emergency services to local Red Cross clients and currently serves as a PAIR (Public Affairs Immediate Response) team member. His dedication and commitment to the mission of the Red Cross and his personal time spent on behalf of the Red Cross Oregon Trail Chapter have been invaluable. “I will always consider my association with OTC and the American Red Cross one of my proudest accomplishments,” said Dennis.
