Volunteers from the Oregon Trail Chapter of the American Red Cross responded to assist the family with their emergency needs. Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue fought the fire that started at approximately 9:00am this morning.

The daughter awoke to the sounds of the fire and alerted her mother and they were able to escape the fire and go to a neighbor's home to call 9-1-1. The father was at work at the time of the fire. The home suffered significant damage and most of the family's belongings were lost in the fire. Tragically a pet was confirmed to be lost in the fire also.

The local Red Cross Chapter responds to disasters such as this to help the families meet their immediate needs – such as food, clothing and shelter. Trained Red Cross Disaster Volunteers also provide physical and mental health as needed to disaster clients.

Single family residences, as well as apartment fires are just one of the many disasters that trained disaster response volunteers respond too. Eighteen local Red Cross volunteers left earlier this week to respond to weather-related disasters in the northern Mid West .
