The trained and ready volunteers—from nine different cities in the area—have committed to a three week assignment after only 24 to 48 hours notice before their departure to the storm damaged communities. A Red Cross nurse has been assigned, and other volunteers will assist with client casework and sheltering, computer support, logistics, and distribution of badly needed supplies. Others will help at the local Red Cross Chapters in the affected states, and at the Red Cross area headquarters.

Red Cross chapters across the United States have been contacted by the national deployment system to send nearly 600 volunteers to assist in the areas damaged by the Nor’easter that caused heavy snow, extensive flooding and widespread power outages.

About the Oregon Trail Chapter
The American Red Cross is a humanitarian organization, led by volunteers, that provides relief to victims of disaster and helps people prevent, prepare for and respond to emergencies. Local Red Cross volunteers respond to residential fires and other disasters an average of every 40 hours. All Red Cross disaster assistance is free, made possible by voluntary donations of time and money from Oregonians. Financial gifts help provide shelter, food, clothing, counseling and other immediate assistance to those in need. Call (503) 284-1234 or visit www.redcross-pdx.org
