“Enrolling your child in Babysitters Training is an excellent way to provide them the opportunity to learn important lifesaving and decision-making skills” said Daniel Soule, youth education specialist for the Oregon Trail Chapter. “Our When I'm In Charge training teaches children the skills they need to be safe and make lifesaving decisions if they find themselves home alone or without immediate adult supervision”.
Course offerings include:
Babysitter's Training – The course teaches youth, ages 11 to 15, the skills needed to be prepared and responsible childcare givers. The course covers live-saving emergency care, including first aid, rescue breathing and other appropriate care for younger children. It also teaches child development, infant care (including diapering) and accident prevention. The six-hour, 45-minute course costs $35.

When I'm In Charge – Designed for 3 rd , 4 th and 5 th graders under the age of 11, this course prepares children to respond safely to a variety of “home alone” situations. Participants will: role play answering phone and door situations; discuss gun and Internet safety; and discuss personal safety and first aid situations. Each student receives a participation book, phone and note pads, an emergency phone list card, and a fire escape plan. Parents are encouraged to attend the final half-hour of the class to watch the safety video and participate in the final class activity with their child(ren). Course Fee: $18.00
