Power and services have been restored to Vernonia. The Vernonia Fire Chief, incident commander of the affected area, has advised the Red Cross that there is no longer a need for a shelter. Businesses and stores are now able to provide food, propane and other necessities to Vernonia residents.
The Red Cross sheltered four individuals last night at the Middle School; two who needed a warm place to spend the night, and two Mist residents who lost their home to fire who will be provided with motel lodging courtesy of the Oregon Trail Chapter.
Lunch and dinner will be provided by the Vernonia Middle School at the cafeteria today.
Oregon Trail Chapter volunteers provided immediate emergency needs for four counties in the aftermath of the windstorm. Four shelters were opened for affected residents and the Red Cross served over 5000 meals and snacks.
