Six units were affected by the fire and the Oregon Trail Chapter is assisting 31 individuals—including children and infants—with lodging, food, and financial assistance for replacement items such as clothing, cribs and blankets.

Red Cross client services caseworkers will continue to provide assistance to the affected families in the days ahead in the service of providing additional aid as needed.

This is the second apartment fire in Gresham that the Red Cross has responded to this week. On Friday, September 8th at 4:30pm, the Oregon Trail Chapter helped a family of four after a fire at their apartment on SE 187 Avenue in Gresham. Red Cross volunteers assisted two adults and two children with lodging and food through the weekend.

The American Red Cross is a humanitarian organization, led by volunteers, that provides relief to victims of disaster and helps people prevent, prepare for and respond to emergencies. Local Oregon Trail Chapter volunteers respond to residential fires and other disasters an average of every 40 hours. All Red Cross disaster assistance is free, made possible by voluntary donations of time and money from Oregonians. Financial gifts help provide shelter, food, clothing counseling and other immediate assistance to those in need. Call (503) 284-1234 or visit www.redcross-pdx.org
