The presentation will be held in the Jones Farm 2 (JF2) building at Intel's Jones Farm Campus in Hillsboro at 1 PM on Monday, July 17. Media are invited to attend.

“This award is being presented to only a handful of donors who gave more during Katrina than almost anyone ever has before. One of them was Intel,” said Lou August, Manager of In-kind Donations at the National American Red Cross. “Intel showed exceptional engagement in our mission in multiple areas.”

Intel's contributions to the Red Cross during Hurricane Katrina totaled more than $11 million, including more than $4.3 million dollars in cash donations and more than $5 million in in-kind donations. Intel also supplied numerous volunteers nationally and locally to assist with relief efforts.

August, along with Oregon Trail Chapter Board Member Pat Brown and Executive Director Mary Loftin, will present the award. Recipients to attend include Tripp Robinson, Intel Northwest Emergency Manager, members of Intel's Red Cross Steering Committee and the Intel employees who volunteered with the Red Cross during Hurricane Katrina.

“Intel gave money, in-kind donations and their employees volunteered. Pretty much any way you can give, they did it,” said Maree Wacker, Development Director of the Oregon Trail Chapter. “Intel truly is a model corporate sponsor for the Red Cross and we hope their leadership is an example for others.”

At the Oregon Trail Chapter 2006 annual meeting Intel was awarded the Community Partner Award for its local involvement with Red Cross relief efforts. Intel has been a leader in corporate emergency preparedness by providing onsite CPR and first aid training to their employees, donating money and equipment, and hosting blood drives.

The award is a pewter revere bowl designed by Tiffany & Co. specifically for the Red Cross to present to these elite donors. It contains the inscription:

Intel - In appreciation for extraordinary compassion, mobilization and impact of your humanitarian support to the American Red Cross and the people we serve. We are deeply committed to our partnership with Intel and thank you for your continued support.

About The American Red Cross Oregon Trail Chapter

The American Red Cross is a humanitarian organization, led by volunteers, that provides relief to victims of disasters and helps people trained, empowered and prepared for emergencies. The Oregon Trail Chapter attends to seven Oregon counties, responding to local disasters, training citizens in CPR and first aid, driving clients to doctor's appointments and other essential needs, and sending volunteers to assist with disaster recovery all over the world. On average, the Oregon Trail Chapter responds to a local disaster every 32 hours. Last year, more than 100,000 Oregonians were touched by the Oregon Trail Chapter. All Red Cross disaster assistance is free, made possible by voluntary donations of time and money from Oregonians. Their volunteerism and contributions help provide shelter, food, clothing, counseling and other immediate assistance to those in need. Call (503) 284-1234 or visit www.redcross-pdx.org
