Last night, seven Red Cross volunteers traveled to West Linn to help 10 adults and two children recover from another apartment fire, this time located on 16th Street.
Since the fire resulted in a fatality and pets were missing, a Red Cross mental health volunteer was also called to the scene. Residents affected by both apartment fires will be receiving cash assistance for lodging food, clothing and other immediate needs.
One of the volunteers, Jan Stennick, was called to respond to the fire last night as she was packing to leave for Nevada. She left Friday morning, along with five other Red Cross volunteers, to help provide disaster relief to Nevada residents who have been affected by snowfall and heavy rain.
An AmeriCorps member serving through the American Red Cross Oregon Trail Chapter will leave today, bringing the total number of local volunteers in Nevada to seven. |
