While Oregonians celebrated Memorial Day weekend with barbeques and outdoor fun, Colorado residents spent their time cleaning up the damage from a devastating tornado. Last Thursday's twister destroyed homes and businesses, killed one person and injured dozens more.
Though the immediate danger has passed, the Oregon Trail Chapter of the American Red Cross is sending two local volunteers to help with disaster response and recovery efforts.
Carol Gross of Beaverton and Carolyn Shawgo of Seaside will provide mental health and emotional support to those affected for the next several days. Both are willing to talk to the media about their deployment; please call Red Cross public affairs to arrange an interview.
All American Red Cross disaster assistance is free, made possible by voluntary donations of time and money from the American people.
