After an early morning landslide in the 6300 block of SW Burlingame Place, disaster responders from the Oregon Trail Chapter of the American Red Cross were on the scene to provide food, shelter and emotional support as those affected begin rebuilding their lives.

"Our priority is to make sure these families have something to eat, a safe place to spend the night and a shoulder to lean on," said Eric Corliss, the Oregon Trail Chapter's emergency services director. "At this point, we've provided three families with financial assistance to cover the cost of food and clothing. While we were prepared to provide accommodations or open a shelter, it appears that insurance will now cover their overnight stays."

In addition to financial assistance for clients, the Oregon Trail Chapter provided two emergency response vehicles with blankets, snacks and beverages for affected families and emergency responders. A mental health volunteer was also on scene to provide emotional support as needed.

If there are additional families with immediate disaster-caused needs, they are urged to contact the Oregon Trail Chapter at 503-280-1455.

While disasters are hard to predict, it is always important for Oregonians to be prepared. For landslide safety tips, visit www.oregonredcross.org/landslides.
