PORTLAND, Ore. – This Valentine’s Day, meet that special someone while meeting OSHA requirements when you sign up for Singles CPR. The new class, offered by the Oregon Trail Chapter of the American Red Cross, will teach participants the skills to save a life in an informal, interactive setting – perfect for mixing and mingling.
Singles CPR will be held on the most romantic day of the year – Saturday, February 14 from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Chapter’s headquarters, 3131 N. Vancouver Ave. in Portland. Participants can register online at www.oregonredcross.org/SinglesCPR.
The inspiration behind Singles CPR is as endearing as the class itself. “We regularly spotted ‘missed connections’ on Craiglist that referenced people seeing each other in CPR training,” said Lise Harwin, communications director for the Oregon Trail Chapter. “After posting a few of these on our blog, we started to think it would be fun to simply organize a class dedicated to singles. We polled our blog readers and they ‘heartily’ agreed!”
While the real reward might be finding true love, class participants will also receive a free two-week membership to the Portland Mercury’s Lovelab personals, sweet treats from Pix Patisserie and, most important, Red Cross certification in CPR. Due to the fact that beer, wine and heart-shaped cookies will be served at the event, registrants are asked to bring identification to prove that they are 21 or older.
“The Valentine’s Day class is the first of its kind for the Oregon Trail Chapter,” said Harwin. “If it proves popular, we’ll look at offering other varieties – from Singles CPR for those over 40 to classes for gay and lesbian singles. Everyone should know how to save a life in an emergency, but why not jumpstart your own heart at the same time?”
