INTERNATIONAL DISASTER WELFARE INQUIRIES (IDWI)
At this time, IDWIs can be accepted for missing loved ones in relation to the Australian wildfires.
IDWIs will be accepted that meet the following criteria:
- Sought persons living in the affected areas who were in regular contact with their relatives in the United States before the disaster occurred. To determine if an area was affected, visit www.dse.vic.gov.au, click on Fires and Other Emergencies. Click on Fires Today.
- For immediate family members ONLY (parents, siblings, children, spouses, fiancées, grandparents or legal guardians) who are not U.S. citizens.
Inquiries concerning U.S. citizens should be referred to the U.S. Department of State, Office of Overseas Citizens Services, at 1-888-407-4747. Please remember that this phone number is frequently busy during the first days of a large disaster.
