PORTLAND, Ore. – From County Chair to CEO, many of Oregon's leading citizens have stepped up to serve as American Red Cross ambassadors, advocates and allies for the Oregon Trail Chapter’s work of saving and rebuilding lives – down the street, across the country and around the world.
The 12 members of the new Columbia River District Advisory Board – drawn from Gilliam, Hood River, Sherman and Wasco counties – will act as consultants on emergency preparedness and response, health and safety issues, and the blood needs of Oregonians. Advisors also will have access to special opportunities, from visiting a Red Cross shelter to attending the popular Breakfast of Champions event.
”The Board of Advisors represents a huge opportunity for the Red Cross to tap into Oregon's opinion-shapers, drawing on their expertise and sharing news of what the Red Cross is doing across the state,” said Thomas Bruner, CEO of the Oregon Trail Chapter. “We’re excited to bring together this new team and we thank them in advance for their commitment.”

In Oregon, the American Red Cross shelters, feeds and counsels victims of disaster every eight hours; provides more than 90 percent of the blood used by Oregon patients; teaches thousands of Oregonians lifesaving skills; provides transportation to seniors and the disabled; and supports military members and their families. The Red Cross is a charitable organization – not a government agency – and depends on volunteers and the generosity of the American public to perform its humanitarian mission.
