When I'm in Charge - WIIC
Designed for youth ages 8 to 11, this two-and-a-half-hour Red Cross course prepares children to respond safely to a variety of situations when direct parent supervision is unavailable. Participants will:
- Role Play answering phone and door situations
- Discuss gun and Internet safety
- Discuss personal safety and first aid situations
The Red Cross fee for this course is $18 per child, but because fees and registration procedures differ at each location, please call the site to enroll. Each student receives a participation guide, note pads and a blank emergency phone list. Parents are encouraged to attend the final half-hour of the class to watch the safety video and participate in the final class activity with their child(ren). If this class is held after school, parents should send a snack with their child.

Answer: To teach youth potentially life saving skills and strategies on preventing, preparing for, and responding to emergencies if a parent or guardian is not immediately available; and to educate parents about the importance of providing their children with these life saving skills.
